IAF reporting
4xB25C +1x2000lb
3xP47D +1x500lb
takeoff PALERMO
we had a bad surprise when we found out that our P47 have only 1x500 bomb instead of 2x1000lb bombs(thor).
our 4xB25 formation had to fly all the way to PORTO VHECIO in CORSICA a 40 min fly to look for the supply fleet that was bound to mainland ITALY.
the 3xP47 formation had to fly all the way to CECINA AK38 in north Italy to destroy 2 bridges no. 124 and 127 a 1 hour fly !!
the B25 lost at takeoff PINI due to comp. problems, and we continued in low level flight all the way to PORTO VECHIO , unfortunately we lost LAVIO when he touched the water before the bomb run.
we noticed that the fleet is steel in port ( around 4 troop carriers an some tankers ),aligned for the strike and bombs away...
VIFF hit 1 carrier and destroyed it , ALON missed. when we came out we got some AA and lost 1 engine each.
we managed to return to PALERMO on 1 engine (50 min fly!!). unfortunately VIFF exploded on touchdown.
the 3xP47 formation got safely to the bridges, drooped the only one bomb ,YUVAL destroyed bridge 127 , and all of them RTB in PALERMO. they spotted 2 contacts but wisely avoided to engage.
