Hi All,
I think we have to assume the worst case scenario - that they will field
20 A6M3's in the next mission to protect their production facilities.
Currently after some discussion with ViFF we have come up with the following suggested strategy.
Please feel free to comment.
We will attack with 24 Heavy Bombers (B-17E and B-24) with 16 P-40E as fighter escort.
The bombers will be in three task force with 4 planes in close fighter escort. The fighters will engage enemy fighters that are thretining the bomber task force - engage them and then retrun to t escort. Each time the fighter escort will dedicate half the force to engage and leave half the force over the bomber task force.
example - on the first enconter two planes leave and engage - leaving two fighters over the bombers. on the second enconter one plane leave to engage, and on the third enconter the last plane engages.
The fighters are NOT expected to shoot down the enemy fighters but to force them to disengage the bomber group and the the fighters should emidiately retrun to rejoin the bomber group.
The last fighter formation is a forward fighter sweap that is tasked to clear the way of the bomber groups.
The bomber groups will attack from three different directions - East, West and South. East and West groups will attack first in close succession, each tasked in taking out different factories (exact list is T.B.D).
South group, will take out all the factories still standing.
Open Issues:
1. The bigest variable is the weather - Poor, cloud at 1000.0 m - will it allow accorate high level bombing?
2. Bomb loadout ? I think that formations East and West need 4 x 1000lb and formation South 8 x 500lb ?
3. Route back home for bombers and fighters.
